Covid-19 Updates

Update 3/20/2020

Good Morning Soma Church!

In response to the current government ordinances and the recommendations of the CDC, our Servant Leadership Team has decided the best course of action for ensuring the safety and health of our members is to move to a virtual worship service for this Sunday.  This decision was not made lightly, but after much prayer and consideration.  In order to protect the most vulnerable members of our society, all of us must sacrifice.

The service will be hosted via Facebook Live at our normal start time of 10 AM.  If you are unable to join us at this time, the service will be available after its conclusion via the Soma Church App.  We will attempt to maintain as much of our regular service as possible, with a condensed version of our Praise Team to lead us in worship, and Pastor Shaun bringing the message.  At this point, we are unsure how long we will need to meet in a virtual format.  The Servant Leadership Team will be making that decision each week, based on the most current information available.

In an attempt to maintain our relationships and sense of community that are essential to the emotional and spiritual health of Soma, we will be instituting some new methods of meeting and interacting.  Please be patient with your leadership and technical support, as we are all learning together and venturing into new territory.

At this time, we plan to continue our Wednesday night Bible study and small groups, but not in person.  The team is working on the best way to connect us virtually, and will provide more details regarding that as they become available.  Pastor Brittni is putting several aspects of our curriculum on our YouTube channel for the children to view.  She is also preparing some devotions/discussions appropriate for young children and will be working to connect with you regarding those.  Pastor Corey and Jessica are going through this same exercise to provide connection and support for our teens.  Please watch for emails, app notifications, Facebook posts, etc. in the coming days giving you further instruction on how to take advantage of these new digital worship avenues.

Please continue to support the church with your regular tithes and offerings during this unusual period.  There are multiple options for doing this: 1) you may mail a check to: 212 44th Court NE, Tuscaloosa 35404; 2) you may give online via MO Give, which is available on the Soma App and the website; and 3) you can drop it by the church.  Please contact the church office prior to coming if you choose to use the last option.

God does not allow things to happen without giving them purpose!  Look for the blessings in the midst of this trying time.  Soak up the extra time with those you love.  This is a great time to pray and support one another.  Please remember our elder members.  Call and check on them.  Isolation can make any problem seem larger than it is.  Reach out to each other – a quick text or phone call can be the difference in a good day and a lonely one.  Remember our students and children; they have lost the most normalcy.  Know that God will see us through this!  Charele and I love you.  Call us if you need us, we’ll blow you a kiss - from at least six feet away.  See you here (virtually) Sunday!

With love and prayers,

P. Shaun
