Latest Highland Farm Update from the Celebration of Thanks

Action Teams

Several action teams have been formed to guide the future of the Highland Farm Initiative. Each team is focused on a specific way the property can serve God’s work and strengthen the life of our church.

Farm Action Team

This team stewards the land itself. They guide how the farm is used for sustainability, hospitality, and visible witness to God’s good creation, turning soil into service.

Fellows Action Team

This team shapes a discipleship pathway for young adults and leaders. They focus on spiritual formation, work, and community, helping people grow in faith while living and serving on the property.

Community Action Team

This team looks outward. They explore how Highland Farm can welcome neighbors, ministries, and partners, creating space where relationships form and the love of Christ is practiced, not just preached.

Finance Action Team

This team provides wise oversight of resources. They ensure the initiative is funded responsibly, aligned with our mission, and built on faith paired with careful stewardship.

Governance Action Team

This team sets clarity and guardrails. They establish structure, accountability, and decision making so the work remains healthy, transparent, and aligned with the church’s leadership and values.

Youth Action Team

This team envisions the the way the space can be a place where students grow. They focus on retreats, teaching, and hands on experiences that help young people see faith as lived, not just learned.

Property Action Team

This team oversees buildings, infrastructure, and long term planning. They ensure the property is safe, functional, and prepared to support ministry for years to come.

Something new is growing at Highland Farm… and it comes with feathers.

The Highlands Farm Initiative has officially entered its poultry era with a modest but chaotic army of 30 chickens, cranking out an impressive 20 eggs a day like tiny feathery overachievers.

The whole operation kicked off when Jacob Soto, Joel Workman, and his son Stone heroically set out to retrieve the flock, presumably not fully aware they were ushering in a new chapter of egg-based responsibility and mild farmyard chaos.

Donated by Jeremy Swartzfager, a fellow regenerative farmer, the chickens are housed in their very trendy portable chicken coop, handmade by Joel. These chickens are living their best lives while the farm searches for brave—or curious—volunteers willing to learn the fine art of chicken wrangling.

Those eggs are already being given away as part of the ministry, a simple and tangible way to bless others with what God is providing through Highland Farm. No catch, no coop-ons, just generosity in action.

But this is about more than eggs.

It is about building something from the ground up, creating space for people to serve, connect, and be part of something that grows over time. The farming side of the Highland Farm Initiative is just getting started, and things are already getting egg-citing.

We are looking for volunteers to help with feeding, watering, and moving the mobile coop. You might even say this is your chance to not be chicken and step into something meaningful.

What started with 30 chickens is beginning to hatch into something much bigger.

So if you have been waiting for a sign, this might be your moment to cross the road.

We have sent an email to volunteer for individuals to become “Ranch Hands” for our feathery friends. If you have not received it, or have additional questions, please reach out to Joel Workman and he can assist you!

The chickens are here. The work has begun. And there is a place for you in it.

God often works through willing hands.

Two months ago we began the process of renovating the first floor of the farmhouse. We are grateful for all of the people who have served the Lord through offering their time and talents to get the job done.

A special shout out goes to the Grove City College students, Servant’s Hands volunteers and Paint Crew.

Our next steps are to finish painting and hanging light fixtures. Praise God for his goodness!

Busy, busy, busy!

The work at Highland Farm keeps moving forward, and it is a joy to see the property serving the life of our church.

Recently, Crossroads held their Senior Retreat at the farmhouse. Laughter filled the rooms, Scripture was opened, and young hearts were strengthened. This weekend, our missionaries Kyle and Claudia Zimmerman will be staying in the farmhouse while they visit our church family. It is a gift to see the farm already being used for encouragement, rest, and gospel partnership.

Construction is also pressing ahead in the new office and conference room. Faithful volunteers have been giving their time and skills to move the project forward. The space has been rewired, drywalled, and primed. Next steps include installing a new dropped ceiling and flooring. We are also working to have the first floor painted.

Progress like this does not just happen. It is the fruit of steady hands, willing hearts, and a shared vision. We are grateful for everyone who has stepped in to serve.

The Highland Farm Initiative is more than a renovation project. It is an investment in ministry, fellowship, and the generations who will gather there in the years ahead.

Building Faith

Through Work

At the Highland Farm, the work is underway. Renovations have begun on the main farmhouse, with one room fully demolished as we prepare to build office and conference space for future ministry. The property has already been used to host the Crossroads Youth Ministry Senior High Retreat, giving students time to worship, learn, and grow together. In addition, six action teams have been formed to guide the many ways this property will be used for God’s work in the months and years ahead.
